Sisters by chance, friends by choice. Corny, but true! After living away from my home state for fourteen years, it was my honor and pleasure to have my sister fly out east to visit me. It was the first time in all those years that she had been to my house. There was so much I wanted to show her and share with her. Time flew by and we didn't do nearly as much sightseeing as I'd have liked. Still... the visit was wonderful and I'm hoping she is able to return soon. Fourteen years is just too long to wait.
Tulip trees in bloom by the Smithsonian Castle. This was one of my favorite pictures taken during our day in the district. The castle peeking out from the trees against the blue background made me believe that spring was finally going to stick around for a while. Jenny and Chris could not believe all of the tulip trees we saw. Most of the trees in this picture are tulips blossoming, not cherry blossoms. Still, it is the pink that I love and pink is what we saw this day.
Spring on the mall. The day we went into the district was the first nice day we'd had in weeks. The weather was perfect. The cherry blossoms were just beginning to bloom. In fact, not very many of the trees had blossomed yet, so we had to walk around the mall to find an area in full bloom. These pictures were taken in a parklike area behind the Smithsonian Castle. Mostly, the tulip trees were blooming, which was a treat since Jenny had never seen a tulip tree before. We did find a couple of cherry blossom trees in bloom and so I took pictures of those. The pink blooms are my favorites. I was glad that we found the pink trees.
Jenny would have been happy spending all afternoon in this little park area behind the Smithsonian Castle. The cherry blossoms were just beginning to bloom and she loved the sea of pink that surrounded us.
